The white walls of her prison begun to dim, closing to a deep darkness as she fell unconscious yet again. Her breathing steadied but her brain was still twitching, still picking up on the surroundings she was locked in. Her mind painted pretty pictures they call dreams. scene after scene she was lost in different place, as a different person and time didn't matter. Seconds were years and years merely seconds. There was nothing to care about and nothing to worry about until even her dreams darkened and reality was suddenly very real. Each ragged breath she took in these dreams she was taking for her own life. The fear she felt was real and every piece of shattered glass coming for the windows of her overturned car painfully stabbed at her tingling skin. A scream erupted from beneath all of the chaos and then she awoke. Lindsay's eyelids were heavy and the light fighting its way into the room was not welcome. Her body was still heaving, aderline pumping from how her brain tricked her into remembering just how she ended up here.
She never would tell the psychiatrist that was hired or her friends, not even Luke when he came to see her. She was surprised, honestly. And ashamed but not because of him. Rather her state of mind and how everyone thought she did belong in a ward with a straight jacket. But just because someone had been put through enough didn't mean they were crazy. No, everyone wanted to silence her. They didn't like the idea of how twisted someone could be emotionally so they just label them crazy and lock them in a room then throw away the key. She knew reality and no human wanted to face the horrors that life can really bring. They'd rather lock away the very intelligent whom have figured this out like Lindsay had. It took her father molesting her, a teenage relationship and falling in love with the most amazing boy ever, and loosing a child to understand this. Not to mention all the awkward learning experiences in between all these events. She knew the real deal, she knew how horrible humans could be and how cruel they were.
She blinked quite a few times letting her eyes adjust to the light that she hadn't seen for weeks. Her frail body was laying on the stiff bed and she smelled like anesthetic more so then ever. Lindsay had been in the hospital once because of Keil but these wounds were different. Instead of them plastered across her skin they were deep inside on her ego. She felt as if everything she had ever lived for was gone including luke. Lindsay couldn't look at him or even his picture sitting on her beside without bursting into tears. She had wanted to marry him, have his children and just be with him but that was blown to pieces because they weren't even seeing each other anymore. She was locked in a hospital, supposed to be healing but she doubted it'd ever happen. Physically maybe so but never emotionally.
She still wondered if what happened was a favor or a tragedy. Did that car crash relieve Luke or did it hurt him? She could never ask him she never had the courage. She couldn't keep her words straight and he snapped when she refused to look at him and since he snapped he stopped coming by to see her. Unfortunately she would be released next week, she'd rather be another hospital fatality. She couldn't live with herself even if this car crash hadn't been her fault. The other driver had been under the influence of drugs and operating a car wasn't his biggest priority. He had died but she had made it. Only, she lost her baby in the process. She wasn't even supposed to be driving but she needed to get to work somehow. And why would a very pregnant teenager be working? Probably because she needed some kind of money to get her through. She was barely eighteen with no biological parents or family to help support her.
She sighed deeply sitting up very slowly hoping not to cause herself pain but her body wouldn't have that. Her spine ached along with a throbbing pain running across her pelvis. She settled back against her pillows muttering to herself, rubbing a hand across one eye that was sore from the crying she had done during the night. She had never felt so much pain in her life as she did now. Lindsay caught sight of the telephone sitting on the beside table and leaned over to pick it up, lifting it to her ear. It had been to long since she heard the dial tone. It reminded her of when she used to sit in her room, always on the phone chatting with a friend about what they were going to wear to school. She missed tiger so much and her friends. She even missed Justin, and Lizzie. Her lovely friends with those happy smiles. Her fingers ran across the numbers dialing the number she still had remembered looking over to the picture of him. She hadn't thought of what she would say if Luke happened to pick up. When his voice rang in her ears it took her a moment to register what she was doing. "hello? ...hello?" his smooth voice called and her throat went dry as sand paper and her breathing stopped. She threw down the receiver, tears streaming down her pale face as she buried her head in her hands. Why couldn't she talk to him? She loved him so much and just couldn't watch as they fell apart. She sniffled quietly trying to hide her emotions as a nurse came in to give her medication. She was out as soon as the needle was pressed into the inside of her arm and once again swallowed by the semi comforting darkness.__ __ __
Lindsay fiddled with the edges of the glass frame finally putting it into her suitcase. That was last of her belongings. She gave a final look to the room she had become very good friends with for almost three months and refrained from balling because now she was being kicked back out into the world that did not want her yet she was still here. She didn't understand but who ever understood the world? She gathered up her suitcases and took the elevator down to the main lobby to sign out. When she was finally in her car she felt so different. Like she was a changed person. She missed her old skin and was determined to find that person she was. Lindsay backed up making sure no one was behind her and carefully drove back to the boarding school she had called home. She was only staying in her dorm because she didn't have to pay an electric bill or anything like that. It made it easier on her.
When she burst back through that door all the old memories, habits and everything she could ever remember flooded her mind. It occurred to her that those were long gone memories and she was now completely alone. She kicked the door shut and threw her things on the floor switching on the lights and hoping onto her bed. It had been here where many things had happened. Luke had been sitting on this very bed comforting her for some reason she had long forgotten but pooled somewhere in the back of her mind. She had it filed she just refused to dust it off and take a look. Sitting up she situated herself on her sheets that were cool because they had not had any human contact for months. Lindsay eyed the phone again. she wanted to see him so bad it ached deep inside her chest. Getting the final courage to call him she picked up the phone dialing his number.
His voice came on yet again and it scared her. "uh. Luke? will you please.. um. meet me at the beach in five" she mumbled and hung up. She felt lightheaded. His voice had always been so calming. She stood and and slipped back out the door into the empty hallway. Evening light spilled in from the double doors towards the end of the hallway. It was almost sun set. That wasn't bad. She didn't expect him to stay for long or even show up but she had tried. Lindsay set out for the beach coming down to the familiar sand and sat playing with her shoes she had taken off.
